In a statement published late on Wednesday night, the New South Wales Police Force said that cybercrime detectives are investigating a major data breach involving the New South Wales Department of Communities and Justice. The statement said that on March 25, the State Crime Command’s Cybercrime Squad were alerted to the data breach of the New South Wales Online Registry Website, which is used to provide access to information on both civil and criminal cases across the NSW court system. The statement said that the 9,000 downloaded court files including apprehended violence orders and affidavits. In a separate statement today, the New South Wales Privacy Commissioner Sonia Minutillo confirmed that she is engaged with the NSW Department of Communities and Justice about the incident.
