Spanish hotelier can’t revoke Warner Bros. ‘MultiVersus’ trademark in UK

Entertainment can keep its UK trademark for “MultiVersus” — a pun on the word “multiverse” and title of its soon-to-retire, free-to-play crossover fighting game — the UK Intellectual Property Office has ruled. While two Grupo Orenes SL trademarks making use of the term ‘Versus’ and the stylized letters ‘VS’ were filed first, an examiner with the office found that the risk of consumer confusion, even indirectly, is low given the marks’ visual, aural and conceptual differences.Revocation proceedings over the “MultiVersus” trademark registered in the UK by Warner Bros. Entertainment have fallen flat amid findings by the UK Intellectual Property Office that confusion with Grupo Orenes SL’s earlier-filed trademarks is unlikely....
