The report by the Australian Treasury Department revealed that Australian Federal Police had issued its first two technical assistance notices in the 2023-2024 financial year — the first time the law-enforcement agency had used the mechanism under the 2018 Assistance and Access Act. Before that, only a state-based police force had used the law’s provisions.
