Change Healthcare calls data breach response 'forceful' in bid to dismiss US suit

By Mike Swift ( March 24, 2025, 23:56 GMT | Insight) -- Change Healthcare asked a federal judge in Minnesota to dismiss litigation filed by patients and health providers in the wake of a record data breach last year, arguing in a series of court filings today and Friday that its defenses were "reasonable" and its response to a massive data breach was "unprecedented" through paying the ransom and loaning $9 billion to affected healthcare providers following the breach. CHC argued that in the hours after the February 2024 cyberattack, the company faced a fateful choice between allowing its medical payment systems to keep operating or shutting down its platform to stymie the attackers, and that it made the "the responsible and obvious choice" to halt the cyberattack.Change Healthcare has moved to dismiss allegations by healthcare providers and individual consumers in a federal court in Minnesota, arguing that despite suffering the largest healthcare data breach in history, its defenses were reasonable, and its response “unprecedented.”...
