AAI says Trump knowingly broke the law by firing FTC commissioners

( March 20, 2025, 16:04 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The American Antitrust Institute released a statement yesterday saying US President Donald Trump’s firing of commissioners Rebecca Kelly Slaughter and Alvaro Bedoya from the Federal Trade Commission goes against the FTC Act and Supreme Court precedent. AAI said Trump knowingly broke the law in an attempt to change it. “The President wants to give the current Supreme Court a chance to overturn Humphrey’s Executor, so he purposely violated binding Supreme Court precedent interpreting the constitutionality of Section 1 of the FTC Act. In other words, the person entrusted by the Constitution to take care that the laws be faithfully executed has knowingly broken constitutional law in the service of a litigation strategy,” it argued.Statement follows in full. ...
