EU-UK data adequacy’s proposed extension welcomed by UK government

By Patricia Figueiredo ( March 19, 2025, 16:10 GMT | Insight) -- The EU Commission’s proposal to extend two EU-UK data adequacy decisions was welcomed by the UK government today as it gives businesses “certainty and confidence in the flow of data,” a spokesperson for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology said. The extension was welcomed by lawyers working with international data flows since the adequacy decisions are set to expire in June, but the UK data reform bill is still going through Parliament and isn't expected to be ready before Easter.The European Commission’s proposal to extend two EU-UK data adequacy decisions for six months was welcomed by the UK government today as it “supports the efficient and effective flow of personal data from the EU to the UK,” a spokesperson for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology told MLex today....
