Signal, WhatsApp used by Australian agencies without adequate policies, report says

( March 19, 2025, 00:10 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Use of messaging applications such as Signal and WhatsApp by Australian government agencies must meet legislative obligations, the country’s privacy regulator said. In a statement today, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner announced the release of a review report of the policies and practices of 22 government agencies. The report reveals that while messaging apps are an established feature of digital communications in the Australian Public Service, most agencies are using these services without adequate policies and procedures.
