Japanese retail chain Kyushu CGC told by JFTC to stop suspected resale price maintenance

( March 18, 2025, 07:59 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japanese supermarket chain operator Kyushu CGC received a warning today from the antitrust agency not to violate the Antimonopoly Act. According to the Japan Fair Trade Commission, the company asked its member supermarkets in the Kyushu and Okinawa regions to sell certain private-brand items above minimum prices from around April 2021 — a practice that could amount to resale price maintenance, which is prohibited under the Antimonopoly Act. The JFTC instructed the Fukuoka City-based company to stop the problematic conduct. According to its website, Kyushu CGC, which stands for Cooperative Grocer Chain, has 22 companies which operate 656 supermarkets as its members in the Kyushu and Okinawa regions of southwestern Japan.The statement, in Japanese, is attached....
