French publishing associations sue Meta over AI copyright infringement

( March 12, 2025, 15:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Three French authors' and publishing associations are suing Meta for allegedly using copyrighted works without authorization to train its generative artificial intelligence, according to a press release. The Syndicat National de L’édition, or SNE, the Société des Gens de Lettres, or SGDL, and the Syndicat National des Auteurs et des Compositeurs, or SNAC, have filed a lawsuit before the Judicial Court of Paris alleging copyright infringement. The associations argue that Meta's AI models have been trained on copyrighted works without compensation, threatening the publishing and creative sectors. The associations seek the removal of unauthorized copyrighted works from Meta’s AI training datasets and call for stronger protections for authors and publishers.See press release in French attached....
