Chinese Internet regulator's tech unit finds privacy issues in 15 apps

( March 14, 2025, 08:20 GMT | Official Statement) -- Edited: Fifteen mobile applications, including those offering navigation, medical, online education, and social entertainment services, were found to have issues related to compliance with privacy obligations by the National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center, a technical support unit for China’s Internet regulator. The issues include failing to ensure right of users to be informed about processing activities, not obtaining user consent when sharing personal data with third parties and processing sensitive personal data and not guaranteeing the right of users to delete their personal data. In addition, some apps did not provide users with convenient means to withdraw their consent or were non-compliant in conducting commercial marketing based on automated decision-making.
