Malaysia reminds 13 sectors to submit data protection registration

( March 14, 2025, 05:45 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Companies, organizations and individuals that process personal data for commercial transactions in 13 covered sectors in Malaysia have been reminded to submit their registration applications to the Personal Data Protection, or PDP, Commissioner. These sectors include communication, banking, insurance, healthcare, tourism, transportation, education, direct sales, services, real estate, utilities, pawnshops and money lending. In a statement, the PDP Commissioner said failure by covered individuals, companies and organizations to register is an offense punishable by a fine of up to 500,000 ringgit (about $112,000) or imprisonment of up to three years, or both.The statement, in Malay, is attached. ...
