AI platform market too new to class services as gatekeepers, EU's Guersent says

Olivier Guersent told MLex in an interview that it was too soon to tell whether the AI market would tip into the hands of dominant players. Instead he said investigators are currently focusing on upstream and downstream markets, where the likes of Nvidia, Google and Microsoft appear dominant. He also worried that breaking up Google would fuel claims that EU enforcers are biased against US companies.The evolving nature of artificial intelligence means European enforcers cannot meaningfully think of overseeing big AI companies with the EU's digital gatekeeper law, Olivier Guersent told MLex, even considering how approaches to competition policy enforcement differ between the EU and the US....
