Ontario raises tax on energy exports to US states

( March 10, 2025, 17:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex summary: Ontario Premier Doug Ford imposed a 25 percent tax on electricity exports to the US as the trade war between Washington and Canada escalates. Ford said in a statement the energy surcharge will hit 1.5 million homes and businesses in Michigan, Minnesota and New York, and cost up to $400,000 every day. Any Canadian generator selling $10 per megawatt-hour to the US will have the surcharge. Ford said that President Donald Trump's tariffs on Canada "are a disaster for the US economy" and vowed that Canadian province Ontario "won’t back down" so long as the US keeps its levies in place. Full press release below: ...
