AliveCor patents invalid, Federal Circuit affirms, vacates USITC decision

By Nick Robertson ( March 10, 2025, 14:44 GMT | Insight) -- The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed that three heart sensor patents held by AliveCor are invalid, following inter partes review challenges from Apple in a long-running dispute over the Apple Watch. The appellate court also vacated and remanded a parallel US International Trade Commission decision finding Apple in violation of Section 337 of the Tariff Act for infringement of the same patents due to its invalidity finding, recommending the commission dismiss the investigation as moot.Three patents for smart watch heart sensors owned by AliveCor were found to be invalid as obvious, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed Friday, following an inter partes review (IPR) challenge by Apple.
