Japan customs says record number of IP infringements seized at border in 2024

( March 10, 2025, 03:24 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Japan recorded the highest number of intellectual infringement-import cases seized at the border in 2024, according to a report released by the Ministry of Finance on March 7. A record 33,019 cases of interceptions were made at the border last year — a 4 percent increase from 2023 and the highest since customs began releasing seizure statistics in 1987. China accounted for 72 percent of the origin of IP violations. Trademark infringement was the most common type, accounting for 94 percent of cases, and clothing was the most intercepted category, with postal services being the predominant transportation method for these goods.
