China imposes retaliatory tariffs on Canadian farm, food imports

( March 10, 2025, 02:56 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: China has announced an additional 100 percent tariff on rapeseed oil, oilcake and peas, as well as an additional 25 percent tariff on aquatic products and pork, imported from Canada, starting March 20, according to a statement released by the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council. The tariffs were imposed as anti-discriminatory measures after China's Ministry of Commerce ruled that Canada's imposition of tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, steel and aluminum constituted discriminatory restrictions. The statement said that Canada's actions violated World Trade Organization rules, reflected protectionist policies and seriously harmed China's legitimate rights and interests.
