States tell US appeals court California social media law should go through

( March 6, 2025, 23:31 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The state attorneys general for 23 states and the District of Columbia told a US appeals court that a California social media law, on its face, does not regulate the “message[s]” or “ideas” expressed in a social media feed. The states filed a brief in support of affirming an order that denied an injunction against the law, arguing that it does not go against the First Amendment. “By focusing on how the platforms use automated processes that rely on ‘information’ to display ‘media,’ the requirement works to limit only how platforms can leverage users’ ‘[b]ehavioral data’ to create ‘engagement optimization’ algorithms that lead to the addictive behavioral patterns that harm children,” they said.
