Water companies see UK class actions over sewage fail to win trial approval

( March 7, 2025, 15:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Proposed class actions targeting UK water companies over their sewage practices aren't approved for trial, the Competition Appeal Tribunal has ruled. The companies, which include United Utilities and Anglian Water, are accused of underreporting the number of times they caused pollution incidents by spilling or discharging sewage into waterways in breach of environmental rules, which allegedly resulted in customer overcharging. The CAT said the actions — brought on behalf of millions of customers by environmental consultant Carolyn Roberts — can't allege an abuse of dominance on the allegations made in the suits.Ruling attached....
