Microsoft to submit licensing agreements with OpenAI in US authors' copyright case

( March 6, 2025, 23:32 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Microsoft has agreed to provide agreements related to the licensing of text-based training data and its agreements with OpenAI to US authors suing the AI company for copyright infringement, US Magistrate Judge Robert Illman in California said. But as a non-party to the case, Microsoft will not have to provide additional confidential internal documents sought by the authors, Illman said. "Given that Microsoft has already agreed to produce data access agreements dated on or after January 1, 2019, that provide for Microsoft’s and/or OpenAI’s right to receive, access, and/or use text data in training Large Language Models, as well as its agreements with OpenAI – the court does not believe that Plaintiffs’ showing justifies any broader production from Microsoft at this juncture," he said. See order. ...
