US FTC sues to block GTCR-Surmodics deal

By Wesley Brown ( March 6, 2025, 23:02 GMT | Insight) -- The US Federal Trade Commission sued to block private equity firm GTCR’s acquisition of Surmodics, a medical device coating company, alleging the deal is anticompetitive. The US FTC said that the combined company would control more than 50% of the outsourced market for hydrophilic coatings, which are often used for lifesaving medical devices such as catheters and guidewires.
