'Australian business' defined by government for federal contracts

( March 6, 2025, 06:07 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A formal "Australian business" definition has been issued to capture organizations seeking to win Commonwealth procurements contracts, the government has announced. In a joint statement today, Australia’s Finance Minister Katy Gallagher and Industry and Science Minister Ed Husic said that defining an Australian business for the purposes of procurement will ensure greater transparency and assist in making businesses more competitive in tendering. The statement said that at least 50 percent Australian ownership is one of the criteria for classifying a business as Australian.
