US authors suing OpenAI denied access to Reuters' licensing deal with Meta

( March 6, 2025, 01:19 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US authors suing OpenAI for copyright infringement have been denied access to a multi-year licensing agreement that Reuters News negotiated with Meta Platforms, a US Magistrate Judge in California said in an order today. US Magistrate Judge Robert Illman rejected the authors' argument that the information is relevant to OpenAI’s anticipated fair use defense, saying that it's unclear why a licensing deal for news content would be relevant to their case.
