Japan’s Trial to buy Seiyu supermarket chain for $2.5 billion from KKR, Walmart

( March 5, 2025, 09:29 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Trial Holdings, a discount-store operator based in Fukuoka City in southwestern Japan, said it would buy all the shares of Seiyu supermarket chain for 380 billion yen ($2.5 billion) from private equity fund KKR and US supermarket operator Walmart. Seiyu, which operates in eastern, central and western Japan, doesn't overlap with Trial's operational area of Kyushu Island, the company said. The deal is scheduled for closing on July 1, 2025, but may change depending on the progress of approval procedures related to competition laws, according to the statement. The statement is attached....
