South Korea establishes $34 billion fund to support key strategic industries

( March 5, 2025, 05:41 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The South Korean government will establish a 50 trillion won ($34 billion) fund to support key strategic industries, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, rechargeable batteries, future mobility, robotics, displays and biotechnology, the finance ministry announced today, along with the trade ministry and the financial watchdog.  According to the joint statement, the government plans to inject the fund into the key sectors over the next five years. The ministry noted the urgency of the initiative, citing intensifying global competition in advanced technologies, growing geopolitical tensions over tariffs and the broader shift toward protectionist trade policies.
