Samsung Electronics-Rainbow Robotics deal wins unconditional approval from KFTC

( March 5, 2025, 02:16 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Samsung Electronics’ planned acquisition of Rainbow Robotics has won unconditional approval from the Korea Fair Trade Commission. The KFTC said it determined that the transaction doesn’t raise anticompetitive concerns because it doesn’t constitute a horizontal merger where two companies producing the same products combine. Instead, the deal was reviewed as a vertical merger where Samsung Electronics and its subsidiary Samsung SDI, manufacturers of Dram and Nand flash memory chips, as well as small-scale rechargeable batteries, seeking to acquire Rainbow Robotics, which relies on such components in its industrial robot production. The regulator determined that the deal would not lead to supply constraints or market foreclosure for rival robotics companies, given the availability of alternative suppliers. Samsung has expanded its stake in Rainbow Robotics to 35 percent, as the largest shareholder to expand into robotics sector.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
