In blow to Lenovo, ‘stream of commerce’ jurisdiction theory won’t be disturbed

By Melissa Ritti ( March 4, 2025, 17:14 GMT | Insight) -- In an order issued this morning, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit denied consolidated petitions for writ of mandamus by China's Lenovo Group Limited, which sought to undo a Texas court’s determination it can be made to withstand allegations of patent infringement there under a “stream of commerce” theory of personal jurisdiction. That marks a win, for now, for Universal Connectivity Technologies Inc. and Eireog Innovations Ltd., two nonpracticing entities who accuse LGL — a holding company for US-based Lenovo US and Lenovo Tech — of infringing more than one dozen patents, including some declared essential to the USB, PCIe and DisplayPort standards.Lenovo Group Limited cannot duck patent infringement litigation initiated against it in Texas on the basis of its role as a China-based holding company, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled today....
