Tennessee baseball player fails to win injunction in NCAA antitrust case

( March 3, 2025, 21:19 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: A Tennessee federal judge denied college baseball player Alberto Osuna Sanchez's request for a preliminary injunction in litigation where he alleges that the National Collegiate Athletic Association's eligibility bylaws violate Section 1 of the Sherman Antitrust Act. In a memorandum opinion and order, US District Judge Charles Atchley said he was "sympathetic" to Sanchez's position but added that the plaintiff failed "to show a strong likelihood of success on his claims under the Sherman Act and state law." Atchley said, "For an organization that professes to prioritize the well-being of its student-athletes, the NCAA’s conduct has in many ways been questionable at best and self-interested at worst. Still, Plaintiff’s extraordinary talents cannot alone justify the extraordinary remedy he seeks." See court filing. ...
