Microsoft cleared in Indian antitrust probe on antivirus bundling

By Freny Patel ( March 4, 2025, 00:20 GMT | Insight) -- Allegations that Microsoft had abused its dominant position by bundling its antivirus software, Microsoft Defender, with the Windows operating system were dismissed by the Indian watchdog. An anonymous complainant alleged to the Competition Commission of India that since the 2015 release of Windows 10, Microsoft has mandated the bundling of its antivirus software, Microsoft Defender, with the operating system. Despite Microsoft's dominance, the CCI found no anticompetitive behavior because users can choose to install alternative anti-virus programs. Allegations that Microsoft had abused its dominant position by bundling its antivirus software, Microsoft Defender, with the Windows operating system and thereby hindering competition and violating competition law, were dismissed by the Indian antitrust watchdog....
