In US dispute over ‘Servant,’ Apple bid for sanctions, interest on fees, denied

By Melissa Ritti ( February 21, 2025, 14:51 GMT | Insight) -- Apple, in a final judgment entered yesterday in California and on the heels of a January jury verdict in its favor, was declared a prevailing party and given two weeks to seek reimbursement of the attorney fees it expended defending Francesca Gregorini’s copyright claims over the television series “Servant.” But the streaming service can’t seek pre-judgment interest on those fees, nor can it pursue sanctions against the writer-director, under the terms of  the final judgment.A final judgment yesterday directs Francesca Gregorini to take nothing on her copyright claims against Apple, M. Night Shyamalan and others, in accordance with a recent jury verdict that the television show “Servant” did not infringe Gregorini’s indie film “The Truth About Emanuel.”...
