Warren urges US DOJ to scrutinize Disney-Fubo deal over antitrust concerns

( February 20, 2025, 19:59 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: US Senator Elizabeth Warren urged the Department of Justice's Antitrust Division to closely scrutinize the proposed deal between Disney and Fubo and warned of increased costs for television viewers. In a letter to Omeed Assefi, who is acting assistant attorney general for the Antitrust Division, Warren said that if the takeover of Fubo is successful, Disney and Fubo will only increase their leverage, and could use the reduced competition and the resultant market power to raise prices even further for sports fans across the country. "Disney’s proposed acquisition of Fubo appears to allow Disney to simultaneously circumvent the lawsuit while gobbling up a competitor... I urge DOJ not to be fooled by Disney’s attempt to purchase its way around antitrust law, and to closely scrutinize this proposed acquisition," Warren said. Statement follows.
