Pareto Phone Australian data-breach probe wraps up, as company collapses

( August 15, 2024, 03:04 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The ACCC has closed its investigation into a data breach linked to third-party tele-fundraiser supplier Pareto Phone, saying the company was now in liquidation and the possible remedies that could be obtained “would not be proportionate to the resources required.” In a statement, a spokesperson for the Office of the Information Commission said that in response to the breach, the OAIC had decided to update its guidance for the charity and not-for-profit sector to highlight obligations under the Privacy Act when engaging third-party providers to assist with fundraising activities.
