Oxfam Australia accepts data undertaking over 2021 data breach

( February 20, 2025, 01:19 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Anti-poverty campaigner Oxfam Australia has put forward a legally binding undertaking relating to a January 2021 data breach that resulted in the loss of up to 1.7 million records. In announcing that she had accepted the undertaking, Australian Privacy Commissioner Carly Kind said while the move didn’t amount to a conclusion that Oxfam had violated Australia’s 1988 Privacy Act, it highlighted the need for charities and not-for-profit organizations “to remain vigilant and follow responsible privacy practices.” The undertakings include a commitment not to store certain personal information for longer than seven years.The full statement from Privacy Commissioner Carly Kind is below, followed by the text of Oxfam Australia's legal undertaking. ...
