South Korea parliament committee vows support for AI development in rare statement

( February 19, 2025, 06:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: All members of a South Korean parliamentary committee overseeing artificial intelligence-related issues today issued a rare non-partisan statement pledging to do their utmost to provide support for the development of the AI industry. Members of the Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee, comprising 20 lawmakers from four parties, issued the statement after some of them visited the main office of Naver Corp, south of Seoul, to discuss pending issues in the AI sector with key officials of the country’s top Internet and AI company. The statement is significant, given that the country's endeavor to develop the AI industry is faced with troubles amid domestic political instability, with President Yoon Suk Yeol suspended from duty pending the Constitutional Court's ruling on the parliament's impeachment motion against him.  The statement, in Korean, is attached....
