Government agencies must do better on personal data, New Zealand watchdog says

( February 19, 2025, 01:39 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Shortcomings in privacy safeguards related to New Zealand’s 2023 census and the Covid-19 vaccination program suggest the country’s government agencies need to do better in managing personal information, according to the country’s privacy watchdog. In a statement announcing his receipt of the two reports, New Zealand Privacy Commission Michael Webster said he was now reviewing referrals raised in the documents to decide whether the cases require further examination. "The Privacy Act is very clear that agencies collecting personal information need to keep it safe and treat it with care.
