Social media services in Singapore need to do more to protect kids, report says

( February 18, 2025, 07:38 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube and HardwareZone — Singapore’s six designated social media services  — need to do more to protect children, the country’s Infocomm Media Development Authority said in its first Online Safety Assessment Report after issuing a code of practice for social media services in 2023. Among the six, X had the lowest overall safety rating while TikTok scored the highest. The regulator said the services should also improve their response to user reports because most took action on just half or less of the content that violated their own community guidelines. The services will have to report the steps they’ve taken to improve on these areas in their next annual online safety report.The statement and report are attached. ...
