Orange España faces EUR1.2 million GDPR fine for illegal access to SIM card

( February 17, 2025, 15:30 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Orange España has been fined 1.2 million euros by the Spanish data protection regulator for violating the EU's General Data Protection Regulation. Orange failed to verify the identity of a person, who obtained a duplicate of a data subject's SIM card without proper ID verification. The unauthorized person later also stole 9,000 euros from the data subject's bank accounts.
