DeepSeek suspends new downloads in South Korea, following regulator's queries

By Choonsik Yoo ( February 17, 2025, 03:20 GMT | Insight) -- South Korea's privacy regulator said today the Chinese developer of the DeepSeek generative artificial intelligence  app has removed it from download services within South Korea temporarily for improvement work to resolve issues regarding its data management and security practices. The PIPC said the Chinese company has expressed its intention to cooperate with the regulator, while acknowledging that it has not sufficiently taken into account obligations under South Korean laws in the process of its global launch. In the US, Texas became the first state to announce late last week an investigation into DeepSeek, while the state attorney general is demanding Google and Apple cooperate.The Chinese developer of the DeepSeek generative artificial intelligence app has removed it from download services within South Korea temporarily for improvement work to resolve issues regarding its data management and security practices, South Korea’s privacy regulator said....
