Breeders, farmers consulted on EU plant variety IP rights review

( February 14, 2025, 14:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The European Commission has started an evaluation of the EU’s plant variety rights legislation — a form of intellectual property rights granting breeders exclusive rights to new plant varieties. The review will assess whether EU Regulation 2100/94 remains effective in promoting innovation while balancing farmers’ rights, especially regarding farm-saved seed exemptions. The evaluation will also examine the role of plant variety rights in the broader IP system. Interested parties can submit feedback until March 14, and the review is set to conclude by late 2026.The call for evidence document is attached....
