CADE Superintendence opens probe of music licensing market

( February 14, 2025, 15:06 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The Superintendence of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense, or CADE, yesterday launched an administrative process against União Brasileira de Editores de Música, or Ubem, for collective negotiation and price-fixing of copyright rights in the music synchronization market for audiovisual projects. The investigation was prompted by a complaint from the TV channel SBT (Sistema Brasileiro de Televisão), and CADE imposed a preventive measure prohibiting Ubem from collectively negotiating synchronization rights values and contract terms on behalf of its primary members, as well as from using or imposing price tables.Read the statement in Portuguese:...
