South Korea designates two AI projects for regulatory sandbox program

( February 13, 2025, 07:53 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: The South Korean government has designated four new business-development projects — including two for AI developers — to receive regulatory exceptions under a sandbox program. It will accept applications from developers to carry out the projects, and the successful applicants will be allowed to work on these projects without worrying about some regulatory obligations. The Office for Government Policy Coordination said the four include a project to develop AI programs using original CCTV video data and another to develop AI programs running on financial companies’ intranets while using services available only on outside networks. This move reflects the South Korean government’s efforts to encourage and foster AI innovation in the country by offering various advantages to private-sector developers.
