FIFA tells EU court that agents’ rules needed to protect football’s integrity

By Lewis Crofts ( February 12, 2025, 16:37 GMT | Insight) -- Football's global governing has said its curbs on agents' activities and fees were "necessary and proportionate" to guard against dodgy dealing against the interests of players, and the rules weren't in breach of EU antitrust law. Appearing at the Court of Justice, FIFA said price caps weren’t aimed at reducing competition and it was legitimately regulating the “dysfunctional” sector. German agency RRC Sports said the governing body had one sole intention — bringing down fees — and this should face an antitrust ban. Football's global governing said its curbs on agents' activities and fees were "necessary and proportionate" to guard against dodgy dealing, and they weren't a breach of EU competition law....
