South Korea updates network regulations with new rules on content-delivery network providers

( February 12, 2025, 03:21 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: South Korea's communications regulator has approved amendments to its network regulations, requiring Content Delivery Network providers with annual revenue over 1 billion won (about $689,000) to implement new anti-illegal content measures, including technical controls, designated staff assignments and mandatory reporting to authorities. The Korea Communications Commission said the revised decree on the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Use and Information Protection also establishes a permanent legal framework for mobile government notifications and financial MyData services, setting out rules for the secure handling of encrypted personal-identification information or connecting information, which previously operated under temporary regulatory exemptions. The amendments also increase maximum fines for spam violations from 10 million to 30 million won with a new three-strike penalty structure.The statement, in Korean, is attached....
