Buena Vista beats request to bifurcate upcoming Moana copyright trial

By Melissa Ritti ( February 6, 2025, 18:21 GMT | Insight) -- A US judge yesterday denied a request by animator Buck Woodall for a jury to hear evidence relating to Buena Vista Home Entertainment’s home video release of “Moana” separately from “other issues” in the case. Those issues could conceivably include profits from Walt Disney’s theatrical release of the film — profits which are now time-barred and off-limits to Woodall. The case is scheduled for trial later this month.An effort by Buck Woodall to “streamline” an upcoming copyright infringement trial against Buena Vista Home Entertainment, or BVHE, fell flat yesterday when a US judge rejected what could have resulted in recapture of liability for The Walt Disney Company as a defendant....
