PTAB judges must return to office, USPTO says, following Trump executive order

By Nick Robertson ( February 5, 2025, 23:19 GMT | Insight) -- All federal non-union employees — a class which includes the administrative patent judges of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board — must follow President Trump’s executive order and return to their offices, the US Patent and Trademark Office told staff yesterday. The change will make USPTO offices busy again, but could threaten the effectiveness of the inter partes review procedure.While most US Patent and Trademark Office employees are relieved to be exempt from President Donald Trump’s return-to-office mandate, at least for now, administrative patent judges at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board can’t say the same....
