Ryanair loses EU court challenge to renewed approval of aid for Portugal's TAP

( February 5, 2025, 08:58 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: Ryanair today lost its legal challenge to renewed EU clearance for Portuguese rescue aid of up to 1.2 billion euros to its flag-carrier airline in light of the pandemic. In 2021, the EU General Court annulled the European Commission's original approval of the aid to Transportes Aéreos Portugueses. The regulator was given two months to adopt a new decision, which it did. In a judgment delivered today, the EU's General Court said that in that new approval, the state aid regulator didn't disregard the conditions of eligibility for rescue aid and that it was right to consider that the state aid measure met an objective of common interest, that was appropriate and proportionate.Press release follows.
