UK data bill grows with additions on data watchdog's duties and AI web crawlers

By Patricia Figueiredo ( January 29, 2025, 13:35 GMT | Insight) -- The UK's data protection watchdog would have a new obligation to report annually on its enforcement under an amendment to a data reform bill passed by lawmakers last night. A package of amendments was also passed intended to protect copyright from web crawlers used for AI training. The amendments could be removed during future parliamentary debate on the Data (Use and Access) Bill. The government did agree, however, to require the Information Commissioner’s Office to put out a statutory code of practice on data processing in children’s education. The UK's draft data reform law has grown longer with lawmakers yesterday adding obligations for the data protection watchdog to report on its enforcement record and approving a package of amendments on copyright for AI training....
