Construction-chemicals cartel probe dropped in UK

By Lewis Crofts ( January 23, 2025, 15:31 GMT | Insight) -- A UK cartel investigation focusing on chemicals used in the construction industry has ended with the national regulator dropping the case because it “no longer [constituted] an administrative priority.” In 2023, regulators around the world started scrutinizing companies such as Sika and Saint-Gobain for their role in the industry, but the UK's Competition and Markets Authority has shelved its strand of the investigation. This week, the CMA chair was ousted as the agency has come under pressure to focus more on a “pro-growth agenda.”A UK investigation into suspected cartel conduct by the likes of Saint-Gobain and Sika has been shelved without finding any illegal behavior....
