Italy's anti-piracy law may lead to over-blocking, CCIA says

( January 21, 2025, 06:00 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: In a letter to the European Commission, CCIA Europe, a lobby group representing platforms such as Google, Meta and X, says that Italy's anti-piracy initiative — designed to block access to websites that illegally distribute copyrighted content — may harm "legitimate online services," mainly through possible over-blocking. The group said amendments to Italy's copyright law introduce obligations that contradict principles in the EU's Digital Services Act. CCIA urged Italy to withdraw the measures so they can be reviewed by the commission.The letter is attached....
