Vet outbound investments in advanced tech, EU Commission urges member states

( January 15, 2025, 12:33 GMT | Official Statement) -- MLex Summary: EU companies' external investments in semiconductors, artificial intelligence and quantum-computing technologies should undergo scrutiny to mitigate risks to the bloc's economic security, the European Commission said today. The EU's executive arm has issued a recommendation urging the 27 member states to assess such outbound investments to ensure critical "technologies and know-how do not fall into the wrong hands."
