Solara Medical Supplies, maker of glucose monitors, pays $3 million US HIPAA settlement

( January 15, 2025, 01:56 GMT | Official Statement) -- Solara Medial Supplies, a maker of glucose monitors and insulin pumps, will pay $3 million to settle allegations by the US Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights that the company failed to safeguard personal health data, following a series of data breaches that affected up to 114,000 people. "OCR’s investigation determined that Solara failed to conduct a compliant risk analysis to identify the potential risks and vulnerabilities to ePHI in Solara's systems; failed to implement security measures sufficient to reduce the risks and vulnerabilities to ePHI to a reasonable and appropriate level; and failed to provide timely breach notification to individuals, HHS, and the media," the health privacy regulator said.Text of Office For Civil Rights statement follows in full:...
